Green Silicon Carbide (SiC) is an extremely hard material which is produced by using the furnace process to heat silica sand and a carbon source (typically petroleum coke) to high temperatures. Once completed the result is a crystalline formation of Silicon Carbide. Silicon Carbide is available in both Green and Black. The difference in the color is a direct result of the purity of which Green SiC is of higher purity.
The Characteristics of SiC include:
Extremely hard (Mohs hardness 9.25)
High thermal conductivity
Low coefficient of thermal expansion
Thermal shock and abrasion resistant
Strength at high temperatures
Chemical inertness
Does not melt
