Analysis Of The Current Situation And Development Prospects Of China's Coated Grinding Tool Industry in 2024

- Sep 26, 2024-

Coated grinding tools, as the "teeth of industry" and "beauticians of industry", play an irreplaceable role in downstream manufacturing industries such as aerospace, shipbuilding, automotive manufacturing, metallurgy, rail transportation, power generation equipment, strategic emerging industries, petrochemical and textile industries, and energy materials.
1, Overview of Coated Grinding Tools Industry
Coated grinding tools refer to grinding tools made by adhering abrasives to flexible substrates (such as cloth or paper) with adhesives. Together with grinding wheels, sand tiles, oilstones, grinding heads, and grinding pastes, they form the six major varieties of grinding tools.
Coating grinding has sheet shaped (rectangular), circular, ring-shaped, and other special shapes. The main varieties include sanding cloth (paper) and sanding belt, which are often used in mechanical or manual operations. They are widely used for grinding, polishing, and polishing non-metallic materials such as metal materials, wood, ceramics, plastics, leather, rubber, and paint putty.
In terms of the industrial chain, the upstream mainly includes raw materials such as abrasives, substrates (such as paper, cloth, steel paper, composite matrix, non-woven fabric, etc.), and binders. The quality and supply stability of these raw materials have a significant impact on the production quality of coated grinding tools. The midstream involves the production and supply of coated grinding tools. At this stage, using upstream raw materials, abrasives are adhered to a flexible substrate through specific processes to produce coated grinding tools. These grinding tools come in various shapes, such as sheet shaped, disc shaped, and ring shaped, and are widely used for grinding, polishing, and grinding materials such as metal, wood, ceramics, and plastics. Downstream coated grinding tools are mainly used in fields such as sheet metal, automobiles, furniture, and steel. As an industrial consumable, the market demand for coated grinding tools is related to the overall macroeconomic fluctuations, but its cyclicality is basically consistent with the cyclicality of national economic development.

2, The current situation of the coated grinding tool industry
According to the "Classification and Code of National Economic Industries" formulated by the National Bureau of Statistics, China classifies coated grinding tools as graphite and other non-metallic mineral products manufacturing (C319) in the non-metallic mineral products industry (National Bureau of Statistics code 31) (National Bureau of Statistics code 3199).
The transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries will increase the demand for high-end precision coated grinding tools, which will alleviate the impact of macroeconomic environmental changes on the demand for coated grinding tools.
At the same time, the downstream industries of coated abrasives, including advanced manufacturing such as aviation, high-speed rail, automotive, and consumer electronics, have experienced rapid growth in recent years, driving the rapid increase in demand for high-end precision coated abrasives. This not only partially offsets the impact of the slowdown in traditional manufacturing growth on the demand for coated abrasives, but also drives an increase in demand for high-end coated abrasives, avoiding significant fluctuations in market demand due to macroeconomic slowdown and providing a favorable external environment for the sustainable growth of domestic advantageous coated abrasives production enterprises.
The coating and grinding tool industry belongs to a fully competitive industry, but after market competition, enterprises in the industry continue to expand their production scale or carry out restructuring and integration, and the overall concentration of the industry has increased. The total output value of the top 10 enterprises in the industry accounts for more than 60% of the total statistical sales revenue of coating and grinding tools.
